We recognise that a gambling habit can form for a number of reasons. It becomes a problem when it begins to affect and/or harm the person and their loved ones, who are often left having to deal with stress, anger, shame and financial burdens.
Arab Council Australia offers group education, therapy and support programs for individuals and families impacted by people with a gambling problem including:
Culturally specific counselling and casework support to individuals and their family members on gambling and other related issues (e.g. financial, relationship, mental health) with high confidentiality.
Information session to promote awareness to the community and community workers on problem gambling.
Delivering workshops in educational institutions to promote awareness among young people in the community on problem gambling.
Financial Counselling Service for persons with gambling problems which includes support, contacting creditors and advocacy.
Referrals to relevant agencies.

Counselling for problem gambling
The aim of counselling is to provide individuals and family member of gamblers with options, support, advocacy, empowerment and strategies to enable them to develop the skills and confidence to take control of their own decisions and behavior.
Our qualified counsellors provide a safe and supportive environment in which to help individuals explore new options. A counsellor does not judge a person or tell them what to do.
Sessions are strictly confidential.
Counselling sessions run for 30-60 minutes.

A NSW Government initiative. Free gambling help counselling services for persons with a gambling problem, family members and friends. This includes face-to-face counselling, financial counselling, a 24-hour Gambling Helpline (1800 858 858) and a 24-hour online Gambling Help service. Counselling and help are available in five community languages as well as English and there are also specialist Aboriginal programs.
